Police investigating after man crashes Jeep into fire hall, runs away

WEST VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The driver of a Jeep that crashed into a fire hall in West Vancouver has been injured after running away from the scene and apparently falling down a ravine. Police are investigating whether impaired driving was the cause of the crash.

Police responded to a call about the vehicle running into the West Vancouver fire hall on Marine Drive near the Dale around lunchtime on Saturday.

Constable Jeff Palmer with West Vancouver Police says a Jeep Wrangler crashed into the hose tower.

“Fortunately the firefighters were away from the building at the time, so no injuries among the firefighters,” he says.

“The building has been assessed by a structural engineer. It appears that it is sound, but will require extensive repairs.”

Palmer says witnesses reported the 23-year-old driver of the Jeep running away from the scene.

The man, from Burnaby, was found about a block away, after apparently falling down a ravine.

“He did appear to have suffered some injuries possibly both in the collision and during his move away from the scene.”

“We are investigating impaired driving as a suspected cause.”
