Bus driver fired after Abbotsford child run over by school bus

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) – A seven-year-old boy from Abbotsford has serious injuries and is recovering in the hospital after being run over by his school bus.

The incident was caught on surveillance video from a neighbour’s home on Curlew Drive. The images are now making the rounds on social media and it shows two children getting off a bus, but the plastic arm that extends in front of the bus retracts too soon. The second child walks so close to the bus, the driver doesn’t see him and drives ahead, knocking the child down and driving over him.

A statement from Khalsa School Mission says the incident happened on October 6th and confirms the bus driver has since been fired. The statement adds that they have been supporting the boy’s family, even holding a two-day prayer that they attended.

Abbotsford Police say they are investigating, but wouldn’t add anything further about the case.

The school isn’t releasing the name of the student or the driver.
