BC Hydro crews on standby for intense wind and rain

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – BC Hydro crews are on standby to restore power if overnight wind and rain are as intense as forecast.

Mora Scott with BC Hydro says their team of meteorologists watches storm activity and advises crews on where to go.

“This really helps us ensure that our BC Hydro crews and our contractor crews, as well as our call centre agents are staffed up, so they’re ready to respond if the lights do go out.”

“We are expecting heavy rain and wind, we do have crews on standby right now, so if people do lose power, we are able to restore their service quickly.”

She says a storm can be hard to predict and advises you get prepared with an emergency kit.

“With things like a flashlight, extra batteries, first-aid kit, food, and water.”

She says BC Hydro has learned a lot from the days when its website would go down from heavy traffic during storms.

“It’s really important for us to make sure that we have our crews on standby, as well as our contractor crews ramped-up should we need them, and our call centre staff available should those lights go out, you can reach them and find out more.”
