Second round of drenching rain heading our way

MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS 1130) – The wind warnings have gone away for now, but don’t get too comfortable if you’re on the South Coast. A second wave of strong wind and drenching rain is headed our way.

Environment Canada has issued rainfall warnings for Metro Vancouver, the Sea to Sky area, and the Fraser Valley.

NEWS 1130 Meteorologist Russ Lacate says we’re only experiencing a temporary lull in the wild weather.

“Widespread rain redevelops Wednesday morning, then comes down in buckets Wednesday afternoon and evening,” he says.

The first storm shook loose a lot of fall leaves, especially in places like Maple Ridge. Fred Armstrong with the City says their crews are out making sure the storm drains aren’t clogged, but home and business owners can help too.

“We ask not to use a leaf blower to push them out onto the street. They should pack them up, compost them or put them out with the organic waste. That way it’ll keep the storm drains clear.”

The first storm cut power to tens of thousands of people in the Lower Mainland and also forced a few cancellations for BC Ferries.

Deb Marshall with BC Ferries says they’re tracking this new storm and will keep people updated.

“At this point we don’t expect any service interruptions on our major routes.”
