New campaign aims to prevent more overdose deaths

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – It’s another effort to curb the overdose crisis taking lives in our province.

Fraser Health is launching a new campaign that includes a guide for talking to a friend or family member who may be using drugs.

Medical Health Officer Dr Aamir Bharmal says it’s called “When Words Matter,” explaining the guide helps with framing the conversation around caring for that person.

“And really it was so important for people who did use substances to just hear that someone cared about them and was sometimes concerned about their substance use.”

“It provides some information about really framing the conversation around being concerned and about really caring and loving someone.”

There will also be posters in bus shelters, bars and restaurants, as well as a video on having that conversation with someone.

It all can be found on Fraser Health’s website, and social media channels.
