Search of farm near Salmon Arm ends

By

SALMON ARM (NEWS 1130) – RCMP confirm the more than month-long search of a property south of Salmon Arm has ended soon after the remains of a missing girl were discovered on the property.

Police say they have turned the farm back over to the owners and officers and all equipment have been removed from the scene.

The Mounties say this does not mean the investigation into the death of 18-year-old Traci Genereaux is over. Her remains were identified late last month and her death is being treated as suspicious, however, autopsy results are not being released at this time.

RCMP have said five women including Genereaux have gone missing in the same area of the north Okanagan in the past 20 months. Police have not linked any of the other cases with the search of the farm.

Mounties began searching the rural property near Salmon Arm last month and announced the discovery of human remains on October 21st.

Police say they are trying to figure out a timeline of Genereaux’s whereabouts on the days leading up to May 29th when she was last heard from in Vernon.

A title search shows the property is owned by Wayne and Evelyn Sagmoen. It is not known whether they are related to Curtis Wayne Sagmoen, who was charged on October 17th with disguising his face with intent to commit an offence, uttering threats and weapons offences.

Sagmoen is scheduled to appear in court in Vernon on November 23rd.

There is a dedicated tip-line set up for anyone who may have seen Genereaux or has any information about her or other missing women. You are being asked to call police at 1.877.987.8477.
