Shoppers in US, Canada taking advantage of Black Friday deals

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Stores in both the US and Canada are banking on big bargains to drum up business as we mark Black Friday.

It has become one of the biggest shopping days of the year on each side of the border.

Black Friday — should you choose to accept the challenge — is a day when you  may be surrounded to the point where it gets claustrophobic. Everyone in that crowd will have the goal to get the best deal possible.

At the Macy’s in Midtown Manhattan, there were so many people that the crowd literally moved as one — a ripple effect from people pushing to get inside.

Shoppers on this side of the border are taking advantage of extended hours to get in on the Black Friday deals, though the crowds aren’t quite the same as those in the US.

At the Best Buy in Toronto, it seems a lot of people are dropping money on electronics. When the doors opened, customers flocked in with some high-fiving the staff as they began their Black Friday shopping.

One person lined up early, got into the store, and walked out with his prize less than 10 minutes later. “It’s about $400, maybe, on savings. It’s a 4K TV. I looked it up online and it looked like it had the best review.”

Retailers across the country are expected to bring in extra staff today to handle the holiday shopping rush.
