BC Corrections investigating release of ‘armed’ and ‘dangerous’ inmate

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – BC Corrections isn’t saying why a man who’s now described by RCMP as armed and dangerous was let out of the Surrey pre-trial centre over the weekend, but says a warrant has been issued to get him back behind bars.

Dean Richard Zastowny, 47, is the subject of a news release by RCMP warning people not to approach him but call 911 if he’s spotted.

In a statement, BC Corrections spokeswoman Cindy Rose says the matter will be fully reviewed.

“We can confirm there was an incident related to the release of an inmate from Surrey Pretrial Services Centre (SPSC). Surrey RCMP were informed and have issued a warrant to arrest the inmate. BC Corrections continues to work closely with the Surrey RCMP on this file.

“BC Corrections is taking this matter very seriously and is conducting a full review to investigate the circumstances. Given the ongoing investigations, we are unable to release any further details at this time.”

Zastowny is described as Caucasain, 6’1” tall with blue eyes and brown hair. He has a full sleeve tattoo with a skull, snake and flames on his right forearm, a tattoo with skulls on his right upper arm, as well as tattoos on his left arm and upper back.
