A Loving Spoonful hosts 3rd annual ‘Great Big Give’

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – When Joe Average’s health and finances took a turn for the worse 10 years ago, he felt there was nothing he could do but tighten the purse strings.

It wasn’t until a friend noticed the pile of cheap frozen dinners in his garbage that he learned about A Loving Spoonful.

“A Loving Spoonful came to my rescue,” the local artist said, explaining how the charity helped him through three years.

“It means so much because you know you’re eating nutritiously and that it was made local and by people who care about you. To have that person once a week, be very friendly. It did a lot for me.”

A Loving Spoonful provides week-long meal boxes and snack bags to people in Metro Vancouver living with HIV/AIDS. Volunteers deliver upwards of 100,000 meals a year.

On Friday Dec. 15, the charity will serve up a different kind of meal at its third annual Great Big Give breakfast fundraiser at the Fountainhead Pub in downtown Vancouver.

“We’ve got an amazing breakfast,” charity executive director Lisa Martella said. “People can come down, make a minimum of a $5 donation and enjoy pancakes, eggs, bacon. It’s going to be lots of fun, high energy and a really great way to start off the holiday season.”

Breakfast on Friday will be served between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. NEWS 1130’s Amelia John will be there.

Donations can also be made year-round on the charity’s website.

NEWS 1130 is a proud partner of A Loving Spoonful.
