VPD looking for man who propositioned 12-year-old girl for sex

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Vancouver Police are asking for help identifying a man who apparently tried to pay 12-year-old girl to have sex with him.

It happened on November 29th at around 2 p.m. in the area of Princess Avenue and East Pender Street. Police say a man went up to the young girl, who was standing in front of a school, and told her he wanted to pay her for sex. He left when the girl said no.

She was not physically hurt.

The girl went back to the school and reported what happened. Police were called, but they couldn’t find the man.

The suspect is described as a 6′ Aboriginal man with a heavy build. He was missing teeth and spoke with a lisp. He was wearing a red plaid jacket over a black hoodie and blue jeans.

“This young girl did the right thing by immediately telling a trusted adult,” says Constable Jason Doucette. “Although there is no allegation of a physical assault, a man offering to pay a young girl for sex is concerning. We would like to identify him to help us determine if he is a risk to youth in the area.”

If you have any information about this incident or recognize the man in this composite sketch, you’re asked to contact the VPD Sex Crimes Unit at 604-717-2634 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
