NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Members of North Shore Rescue are preparing for a poignant send-off for one of their own on Monday.
The team hopes the memorial at the public memorial at the Capilano Rugby Club will leave a grieving family with a lasting legacy.
Jay Piggot was only 36 years old when he died earlier this month of cancer.
According to Mike Danks, team leader of North Shore Rescue, Piggot had spent 15 years doing first responder work.
“He worked for the coast guard, he worked for the ambulance service, he worked for Metro Vancouver. He did a lot of things in his short time here.”
Piggot is also being described as dedicated.
“He was a very community-driven, caring, compassionate and motivated individual. Jay battled cancer for a number of years but remained incredibly positive. He always put others before himself,” says Danks.
Piggot leaves behind a wife and two young sons. A FundRzr page has been set up to help the family moving forward. It has already raised $71,000.
Mourners will also be asked to donate at the service, which starts at 1 p.m.
