Student assaulted near Surrey school

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – A student has been indecently assaulted in South Surrey on her way to a school that saw a similar incident earlier this year.

The 16-year-old girl was walking in Alderwood Park on Lilac Drive when she was grabbed by an unknown man who appeared to have been following her. She ran away from the man to Earl Marriot School. Police have been scouring the area but have been unable to find the suspect.

The victim describes him as a Caucasian male, 30 to 40 years old, with a fair complexion, short black hair, clean cut, and wearing a black hoodie and gloves.

“Thankfully the victim is physically uninjured, however she is understandably upset by the incident,” says Corporal Scotty Schumann. “If you saw anything suspicious this morning investigators would like to hear from you right away.”

A similar incident occurred near the school in September and officers are comparing the two assaults to figure out if they’re connected.

The Surrey School District has sent a letter home to notify parents about this incident and remind students about general safety tips.

Officers continue to canvass the area and look for surveillance footage or witnesses.
