Damaged Surrey overpass won’t be repaired for months

By

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – It’s going to be months before the damage done by a truck carrying an overheight load under the 152nd Street overpass will be fixed.

A truck towing an excavator didn’t make it under the overpass in Surrey in early December, causing major delays and detours on Highway 99 and the overpass.

The provincial government says crews will be demolishing and reconstructing the deck over the damaged part, as well as replacing damaged girders. It’s all expected to be finished in April.

Some shop owners in the area have complained about a significant decrease in business since the truck smashed into the bridge, saying the inconvenience of detours is turning off customers.

Meantime, the Bailey Bridge on King George Boulevard is tentatively set to be replaced in May and June after work on the overpass is done and all lanes on Highway 99 and 152nd Street have re-opened.
