Burrard Street Bridge lights up, honouring war veterans

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – If you are driving along the Burrard Street Bridge you will now see lights shining at the side of the bridge.
Those lights are similar to the ones first put up in 1932. The original bronze lights were inspired by braziers used by soldiers to keep warm in the trenches during World War I.
Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson says the braziers are a great connection to our past.
“100 years ago to World War I, when they had these coal braziers in the trenches. So it’s an important connection to our past and honouring veterans from World War I and all the wars since then,” he says.
“Telling the stories of our past that are so important to this city. And also making sure we have a fantastic safe bridge for everyone who uses it today into the future.”
The lights on the bridge are LED.
