Horgan, Notley will have to ‘come to their senses’: expert talks trade war

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The trade war between Alberta and BC won’t last for long, according to a political scientist at SFU.

David Moscrop believes there are no winners in a trade battle between BC and Alberta. He thinks both Premier John Horgan and Alberta counterpart Rachel Notley are going to have to come to their senses, sooner rather than later.

“Maybe that means the federal government will have to get the parties together just to sit down and say ‘Okay, we have to think of the long term interests of the country and each of your provinces, and look, there’s a process here, there’s a rule of law here, no one wins in a trade war, let’s figure this out.”

He says the economic costs of the war are going to show up soon enough, and once that happens, no one will want to see it continue.

He adds Alberta isn’t exactly completely out of BC wine right now. They still have a roughly 30 to 35 day supply in their warehouses.
