Get ready for a big snowfall

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – We haven’t seen it in a while in the Lower Mainland, but snow is here once again.

The snowfall is expected to end just before the morning commute.

Environment Canada expects 10 to 15 centimetres of snow to fall overnight in the City of Vancouver,  Surrey, Langley, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, Burnaby, New Westminster, West Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Brad Lofgren with the City of Coquitlam says that’s where they’re focusing their efforts.

“Elevations at 200 metres and above are most susceptible at this time however if the temperate does drop tonight we could see at some lower elevations as well it’s a little bit unpredictable.”

Brian Carter with the city of Burnaby says they’re not expecting much snow, but have prepared just in case.

“We’ve done all our anti icing brined a lot of our roadways in preparations and we have our equipment ready to go in case it does shift at anytime.”

In Abbotsford, the city’s Peter Sparanese says they’re a step ahead of the storm.

“We had previously brined most of our roads so in the event there’s any freezing or icing that takes place that’ll help with the thaw that material.”

Other cities also have been salting and have overnight crews on standby in case it gets bad. Regardless of where you live, it’s a good idea to give yourself extra time in the morning just in case.
