Most people in Metro Vancouver want ride-hailing: survey

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It seems many folks want services like Uber operating in BC by next year.

At least, that’s according to a survey done for a group that’s pushing the province to allow ride-hailing finds a lot of support for the idea.

“By a seven-to-one margin, people living in the Greater Vancouver area would support making services like Uber or Lyft available in BC in 2018,” says pollster David Colletto with Abacus Research.

Coletto notes the support is coming from people of all ages and political stripes.

“That’s rare. This is an issue that kind of unites the province. And I think there’s, from the public’s perspective, a fairly clear consensus that probably the time is right to allow consumers to access these services.”

There are several reasons people said they don’t want to wait.

“The ones that really came to the top, I think, were focused mainly on affordability and having alternative ways of getting around Metro Vancouver that are both affordable and convenient,” says Coletto.

The survey was done for the group Ridesharing Now for BC.
