IHIT called in after man killed in Coquitlam, burning car found nearby

COQUITLAM (NEWS 1130) – No one has been arrested after a man was shot and killed in Coquitlam on Friday night.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team say at about 10 p.m., members of Coquitlam RCMP got several calls of shots fired in the area of Sylvan Place and Riverview Crescent and a car was heard speeding away. When officers got there, they found a man with gunshot wounds inside a vehicle. He was rushed to the hospital but died shortly after.

Soon after the shots fired call, Mounties were notified of a burning dark colored sedan a short distance away in the area of Mariner Way near Dartmoor Drive.

“We believe they’re related. We have the vehicle. Our investigators are going through it right now with our forensic specialists and we hope to know more about what was inside [and] who it may have been associated to,” explains IHIT Corporal Frank Jang. “It is still early in the investigation but this appears to be a targeted incident. We need those who have information about this incident to please come forward.”

Investigators say the victim is known to them and they’re informing his family. They also say there is no risk to the public.
