Bremner seeks Vancouver NPA mayoral candidacy

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Vancouver NPA councillor Hector Bremner is the first person to throw his hat into the upcoming mayoral candidate race.

“I’m excited today – with the support of my wife Virginia and two kids Carlo and Gianluca – to confirm that I am seeking the NPA nomination for Mayor of our great city Vancouver,” Bremner wrote in a Facebook post Monday.

The development-friendly councillor says he plans to focus on Vancouver’s ongoing housing crunch. Bremner has previously supported ideas to increase density, and eliminating building-approval process red tape.

“I am both proud and humbled to be part of the #LetsFixHousing movement,” he wrote. “Our movement is full of people who love Vancouver. We have all committed to identify and implement the changes needed to make it possible for middle class working people to live in and enjoy our city again.”

Bremner won his seat in last October’s by-election, after Vision Vancouver’s Geoff Meggs stepped down to go work as Premier John Horgan’s chief of staff.

He ran for the B.C. Liberals in New Westminster in 2013 and is vice-president of the public affairs firm Pace Group.
