Nearly 50 neglected, ‘extremely fearful’ dogs seized in Williams Lake

WILLIAMS LAKE (NEWS 1130) – The SPCA has seized 46 dogs from a rural property in Williams Lake. The association says the animals were neglected and found in serious psychological distress.

Marcie Moriarty with the BC SPCA explains late last week they executed a warrant and found dozens of dogs–from puppies to adults–who were unsocialized and extremely fearful.

“In my mind, it’s one of the most egregious situations,” says Moriarty. “The living conditions on the property and the fact that these dogs are highly fearful–terrified human contact–that makes for an extremely challenging removal.”

Moriarty says the SPCA brought in veterinary experts and behavioural staff to safely rescue the animals. “[The dogs] will have a very long, long road to recovery.”

Horses were also found on the property, but they were not removed.

She adds once they are eligible for adoption, they will have to go to very specialized homes where the adopters understand that the dogs may never want to be touched or have close interaction.

Animal cruelty charges are being recommended against the owner of the property.
