Seven people hurt in head-on crash in Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Seven people have been taken to the hospital after a crash that has shut down a portion of Grandview Highway in East Vancouver.

The collision between a Mercedes SUV and a Ford Focus happened around 6 a.m. near Penticton Street. Police say it appears one of the vehicles crossed the centre line.

The driver, 20, and passenger, 19, of the Ford suffered life-threatening injuries, while a third person in that car suffered serious but not believed to be life threatening injuries. They are all Burnaby residents.

Meanwhile, four people ranging in age between 48 and 70 years old riding in the SUV suffered relatively minor injuries, according to police. They have all also been taken to hospital.

Investigators are looking to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call them at 604-717-3012.

Grandview Highway between Nanaimo and Slocan Street was closed to traffic until about 4 p.m. as police conducted their investigation. It has since reopened.
