Search for Vancouver mother accused of abducting young son

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A desperate search is underway in Vancouver as police look into an apparent parental abduction.

The VPD issued a public notice in the middle of the night in hopes that a member of the public can help them find a mother and her son.

They say 34-year-old Shawana Chaudhary is believed to have taken her nine-year-old son on Friday, despite a court imposed custody order. Investigators think Chaudhary may be traveling with her son, Emerson Cusworth, and her six-year-old daughter. No details, like the little girl’s name, are not being released because she’s not part of the court order.

“Police believe Ms. Chaudhary made plans to be away from home for an extended period, and may be traveling with the two children and one or two dogs,” says Sergeant Jason Robillard in a statement.

The VPD isn’t issuing an amber alert as there’s no “indication that either child has been harmed or is in imminent danger.”
Chaudhary appears South Asian, 5’8″ tall, weighing roughly 106 pounds, with long dark hair and dark eyes.

Emerson also appears South Asian, about 55 pounds, with short black hair and dark eyes.

Anyone with information about their whereabouts, their recent activities, or possible travel plans are being encouraged to call 911, the VPD at 604.717.0601 or Crime Stoppers at 1.800.222.TIPS (8477).
