North Van’s Darrell Mussatto joins list of Metro mayors not seeking re-election

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Another Metro Vancouver Mayor won’t be running for re-election in October. North Vancouver’s Darrell Mussatto is set to step away from civic politics.

Mussatto is the seventh mayor in the region to announce that he won’t be running again.

But he doesn’t put much stock into any theories behind a mass migration from the mayors office.

“I think it’s more of a coincidence that there’s been a lot of people serve for quite a long time, it’s time for some of us to step aside and let new ideas, new generations come in.”

He says he will look back fondly at his time in office.

“It’s been an honour and privilege to serve for 25 years, the public, and we’ve made some significant changes and I feel it’s time. It’s time to move on to new challenges,” says Mussatto.

He says a greenhouse gas reduction and public space accessibility are some of his biggest accomplishments while being in office.

And while he does have some ideas of what he’ll do next, nothing is concrete.

“I used to be a school teacher, I was a paramedic, so I’ve got those opportunities. So I’m just going to wait and finish up my term and then look for something because I still need to work!”

Vancouver’s Gregor Robertson, Wayne Baldwin of White Rock, Greg Moore of Port Coquitlam, Nicole Read from Maple Ridge, Ted Schaffer from the City of Langley, and Lois Jackson of Delta have all announced they will not be seeking re-election.
