Canucks officially eliminated from playoff contention

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – You can officially put the fork in the Vancouver Canucks’ season.

Thanks to the club’s 3-0 loss to Anaheim last night, the team has been eliminated from NHL playoff contention.

But Sportsnet 650’s James Cybulski says there is a bright spot in this sad-sack of a season.

“If they finish with the worst record of the National Hockey League, it’ll give them a 48 per cent chance of having a top three pick, and less than a 20 per cent chance of the first overall pick,” says Cybulski.

“This team is set up to not optimally succeed right now, at the National Hockey League level, with so many key regulars that are out of the lineup right now, including the best player on the team, Brock Boeser. Eleven games to go. It’s not pretty, but most rebuilds aren’t.”

The NHL Draft will be held June 22 and 23 in Dallas.
