Threat against CRA employee investigated, shuts down centre

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – A potential threat shut down Surrey’s tax centre on King George Boulevard this morning.

Mounties say a Canada Revenue Agency employee received a threat which prompted police to shut down part of the area and the parking lot.

A suspicious object was found in the lot. “Further investigation confirmed that the object was not a threat to public safety,” reads a release.

The BC RCMP’s Explosive Device Unit, the South Coast British Columbia Transit Authority Police Service, Fire department and Emergency Health Services were all called in to assist.

Police aren’t saying what it was, but investigators are now trying to figure out if the object is linked to the threat.

Traffic was closed along 134 Street between 96 and 98 Avenues, but has since re-opened.

The Surrey RCMP is calling for anyone who may have more information about this incident to contact them at 604-599-0502. If you wish to remain anonymous you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or go to www.solvecrime.ca.
