JUNO weekend underway in Vancouver with events for all

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The Canadian music industry has descended upon Vancouver for JUNO weekend, and there are plenty of events for everyone.

Alan Reid with the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences says it’s not just the red carpet and parties for stars.

“There’s a lot of family activities. We’ve got things like the JUNO cup, but also an event like Junior JUNOs.”

There’s also a comedy show for those of you looking for a laugh, and a whole lot of free music, of course. “The host committee has done a great job putting together a celebration site down at the Vancouver Art Gallery Plaza, and they’re going to be programming free music all weekend long.”

And while there are free performances put on around the city at a number of JUNOfest venues, Reid says his favourite is the Songwriter’s Circle. “This year hosted by Jann Arden and Bob Rock… It’s an intimate opportunity to hear artists talk about the creation of those songs, and where they came from. And if you’ve ever seen Jann Arden live, she’s hilarious. So it should be a lot of fun.”

Reid says the excitement has been building for months, but admits it’s “full mode” now.

So if you’re not one for the glamour and the glitz, Reid says you might find something that could interest you.

“If you’re out and about, go out, check out live music, take it in. The JUNOs are here, so enjoy it.”

Our friends Kevin Lim and Sonia Sidhu with KiSS Radio will be live on the red carpet ahead of the awards tomorrow! We’ll also have a reporter there, so be sure to tune in to NEWS 1130 –you can follow us on Twitter or listen live online anytime.
