Trinity Western University hockey team in mourning after Humboldt tragedy

LANGLEY (NEWS 1130) – Members of the Trinity Western University hockey team are telling their personal stories about Humboldt.

Head Coach Barret Kropf has a connection to the Broncos head coach Darcy Haugan.

Kropf was a chaplain for Haugan when he was playing for the Estevan Bruins.

“I just talked to him last week about some of his players. He’s such a great guy,” says Kropf. “They had some lean years, and he came in and turned the program around because he’s a coach that cares.”

He says Haugan was different because of his faith and was able to connect with players.

Kropf says he and a few others will be flying out to the region to offer some spiritual guidance.

Forward Jarrett Fontaine calls Humboldt home.

“I don’t know where the situation is at and I just want some answers. I don’t know if my friends are living or if they are dead.”

Fontaine played for the Broncos for three years before coming to TWU.

“I wish I was there praying with the people, supporting the people and loving them, because this is not an easy time.”

He says several people have reached out to him offering support, even from other teams.
