Spring in full bloom in at Chilliwack Tulip Festival

CHILLIWACK (NEWS 1130) – It’s a quintessential sign of spring on the Lower Mainland–the first tulips have now begun to show some colour at the Chilliwack Tulip Festival.

Kate Onos-Gilbert with the festival says by this weekend, there should be about two acres of orange blooms.

“Our tulips just started in the last couple of days, our largest variety, a world favourite, will likely be in full bloom this weekend. We have about two acres in full bloom,” she says, adding a few other flowers will be open and proudly showing their colours.

“So now our hyacinths…are in full bloom. Our three acres of daffodils are probably about 60 per cent but by the weekend should be nearing 80-90 per cent full bloom.”

Onos-Gilbert adds all the rain we’re expecting won’t impact the flowers, explaining temperature is what affects them.

The festival is now in its second week, and runs until at least April 29th, with the possibility of an extension into May.
