No risk to the public after Vancouver records city's seventh homicide of the year

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – One man is dead and another has been arrested following an overnight assault in Vancouver.

Police say just before 1:30 a.m. around Kingsway and Nanaimo Street, officers and paramedics were called out after a man was found badly injured. He was rushed to the hospital where he later died.

The victim has been identified as 55-year-old Dam Minh Huu.

Detectives took a 48-year-old Vancouver man into custody in connection to Huu’s killing as they continue to gather more information.

“The evidence suggests that the two men, who knew each other, got into an argument on the street a few blocks from where Mr. Huu was located. The argument escalated resulting in the death of Mr. Huu,” says Vancouver Police Sergeant Jason Robillard.

He adds homicide detectives are not looking for any other suspects and they don’t believe the public is at risk.

Anyone who may have witnessed the right or who may have more information on this case is asked to call the VPD and ask for the Homicide Unit at 604.717.2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1.800.222.8477.

This is the city’s seventh homicide of the year.
