ST. LAURENT, Quebec (NEWS 1130) – A dog in Quebec is being inducted into the Purina Animal Hall of Fame after saving her owner’s life.

It was 2 a.m. when Adele Schwartz woke up in to go to the bathroom. Taking a wrong turn, Schwartz fell down the stairs and was knocked unconscious. Sabrina, a 12-year-old Whippet, found her owner laying at the bottom of the stairs.

According to her owners, Sabrina had woken Adele’s husband Bill by nudging him and then led him to his wife.

“She was insistent that he get up.” says Adele. “I was unconscious.”

Immediately, Bill called for an ambulance.

Adele had a fractured back, and a fractured vertebrae in her neck which put her in a collar for two months. She says she owes her life to Sabrina.

“She saved my life. Had she not, I would have bled out by morning.”

Sabrina is one of four other dogs being inducted this year. To date, 179 animals have been inducted into the program, including 151 dogs, 27 cats, and even a horse.
