‘Suspicious’ fire at abandoned Langley home

LANGLEY (NEWS 1130) – A recently-abandoned home in Langley has gone up in flames this morning–something firefighters say is suspicious.

Langley Township Fire Department were called this morning about a blaze on 32nd Avenue near 196th Street.

A team of about 18 firefighters from two different detachments worked quickly and managed to have the flames out by 11 a.m.

“It appears that nobody was permanently living in the house,” says Deputy Fire Chief Bruce Ferguson.

“[There were] a bunch of personal effects and appliances and furniture strewn all over the property but nothing inside the house.”

While no one was injured in the fire, Ferguson says the fire doesn’t appear all that random.

“It’s pretty suspicious,” he says. “We’re suspecting that it was a set fire, but we won’t be able to determine that until we can get in to investigate.”

Ferguson says an investigation will likely happen on Wednesday, when the fire inspector comes back from long weekend holidays.
