Cops who allegedly stole, ate edibles from dispensary raid facing charges

TORONTO – Two Toronto police officers who allegedly stole and consumed marijuana edibles that were seized during a dispensary raid are now facing charges.

The story made headlines in January after the two officers began hallucinating after consuming the weed-laced goodies. One of the officers reportedly climbed a tree while in a state of extreme intoxication.

Things got so trippy that one of the officers placed a distress call. The bizarre episode, which could have been dubbed “Keystoned Cops,” took another unfortunate twist when a responding officer slipped and fell on a patch of ice and had to be treated in hospital for a head injury.

The two officers were not in uniform when they allegedly consumed the edibles that were seized from a St. Clair West dispensary, but they were on duty, a source previously told CityNews.

Both 13 Division officers were treated in hospital and suspended while the Toronto police Professional Standards unit launched an investigation.

On Tuesday, Const. Vittorio Dominelli, 36, and Const. Jamie Young, 35, were arrested and charged with attempt to obstruct justice and breach of trust.

In a release, police said the alleged offences took place on Jan. 27 and 28.

Both are scheduled to appear in court in Toronto on June 7.
