Taleeb Noormohamed announces run for Vision Vancouver’s mayoral candidate

VANCOUVER (NEWS 113) – Another person has thrown their hat in the race to replace Gregor Robertson.

Taleeb Noormohamed announcing his run for Vision Vancouver’s mayoral candidate in Gastown Wednesday night with a speech to supporters that stressed the importance of working together and promises of a pragmatic approach to leading.

“It’s a campaign about making sure that transit, is something that we focus on, real solutions to long-term planning around transit to make sure that the city of the future that we want to be is a reality that we actually build together.”

Noormohamed is a tech entrepreneur and investor, previously serving as a senior executive for the short-term vacation rental website, HomeAway.

He says he’s improve the housing crisis by thinking about multi generational housing and working with community organizations.

“Making sure that we are creative in finding the right solutions, building the right partnerships on housing to make sure that the solutions that we come up with are not just world class in name but world class in purpose.”

Noormohamed follows Squamish Nation Chief Ian Campbell, who announced his candidacy for the upcoming municipal elections last week.

“I consider Ian a friend, I admire him for putting his name forward because I think this is an important task and we’re going to learn from each other through this process,” Noormohamed told reporters “I think we’re going to make each other better candidates and whoever comes out of this at the end I think will be better for the fact that we’ve had the other person to be able to learn from and work with.”

Vision Vancouver initially held off on opening its mayoral nomination process, mulling the idea of collaborating with other parties and endorsing an independent, but a month later opened nominations for a Vision Vancouver candidate for mayor because it was contacted by variety of potential candidates who wanted to run under the Vision banner.

The party’s nomination meeting will be held on June 24 and people who live in Vancouver and want to vote, have until June 10 to join Vision Vancouver.
