Looking ahead to a long and hot summer

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – We are just weeks away from saying “goodbye” to spring. So, what can we expect this summer?

“Following along with the theme of our extended forecast over the preceding several weeks, we continue to see evidence that warmer than normal and unseasonably sunny weather will show up in our summertime picture on the west coast,” says NEWS 1130 Meteorologist Russ Lacate.

Russ says this summer will be a long and hot one. “We’ve had a sample of it already here in May, and the temperatures will continue trending above average. Rainfall amounts skew below normal.”

“No doubt, that will raise further fears of potential water restrictions around the Lower Mainland, while also enhancing the forest fire risk across much of the Interior, especially for July and August.”

But you should keep in mind that summer outlook doesn’t kick in for a couple of weeks.

“Early June promises to turn temporarily cool and unsettled,” Russ points out.
