Hollywood twist added to Vancouver Heritage House tour

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The Vancouver Heritage House tour is back this weekend, with an added Hollywood twist.

One of the homes featured this year was once owned by two famous actors.

There are nine different homes on the tour, including the Tudor revival in First Shaughnessy that Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn called home for three years while their son Wyatt played in the BCHL.

“But it was newsworthy when it was built in 1921 with its 10 fireplaces and elegant interior and it’s been really well-preserved over the years,” explains Judith Mosley, Executive Director of the Vancouver Heritage Foundation. “They were just in the city for a relatively short time but established themselves in First Shaughnessy and chose a really lovely house to spend their time in Vancouver.”

She says another highlight is a home originally built for a French baron.

“By the same builder as the James Residence which is familiar to many as the Hobbit House. It similarly has some really special features about it. It includes stone and brick and tile and gabled roofs and a stunning location,” she says. “This year as well, there’s a number of homes on the tour that showcase the Arts and Crafts movement and its influence in Vancouver, at a time when Vancouver was growing rapidly and a lot of ideas and people were coming here from different parts of the world.”

The Vancouver Heritage House Tour happens Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
