A three-minute shopping spree for two BC girls with serious illnesses

KAMLOOPS (NEWS 1130) – A little girl from Kamloops with Spastic Cerebral Palsy and Autism will get the shopping spree of a lifetime thanks to Toys R Us and the Starlight Children’s Foundation of Canada next month.

Savanna Morris’ family says she was picked by the foundation and she’ll get three minutes to grab whatever she wants from the toy store on July 9th.

Her mom, Nicole, says the nine-year-old is excited and is already preparing for the big day, even making up a sort of treasure map.

“We’re going to the store to look around first the night before. She’s been on their website, making up a wish list.”

Morris adds her daughter is wheelchair-bound, and doesn’t get a lot of opportunities to do things other kids do.

“For her to get a special day all about her and have this event and be pretty much princess for the day and have all these special moments from Starlight, it’s pretty incredible for her to have this opportunity.”

Nicole adds her daughter and twin were born extremely prematurely but she’s never let her health get in the way, adding Savanna is very talkative, sings and is outgoing.

Another nine-year-old girl from Langley is also getting a shopping spree.

Charlie-Anne was just six-months-old when she was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1 and given only a few months to live. After repeated hospitalizations, her family says she’s doing great. They say she loves to play video games, read and explore the city.
