Which team Vancouverites appear to be cheering for in the World Cup

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Some people are wearing the team colours, others are getting up early to watch the games, while some are flying the flag on their cars. You may be one of the thousands of locals paying close attention to the World Cup, which is underway in Russia.

The jerseys of all the big names are all selling like you’d expect — Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and John Svelka with VanCity Sports says anything to do with Brazil.

He adds there is one surprise.

“Very unusual jerseys have been sold out. Egypt jerseys are all gone. Nigeria is crazy because of the fashion write-ups about their jerseys, so those are remarkably gone.”

Svelka explains people are coming in looking for items that have long been sold out.

“A lot of people are looking for Iran [uniforms] which are not available. But the stuff that is selling really well this year is Iceland. Not too many stores have all three colours, those have been selling really well.”

And like most international tournaments, once they’re gone, they’re gone and you’ll have to wait another four years to get your hands on one.
