Dolan's third feature, 'Laurence Anyways,' moves ahead with help from Telefilm

The Canadian Press Dec 16, 2010 16:16:45 PM

MONTREAL - A third film from Quebec phenom Xavier Dolan is among 11 French-language features that have been granted support from Telefilm Canada.

"Laurence Anyways" is a Canada-France co-production written and directed by Dolan, Telefilm said Thursday in a release.

It centres on the lovelorn Laurence, who tells the object of his desire, Fred, that he wants to become a woman.

Other films that earned support from the federal agency's Canada Feature Film Fund include:

-"Magasin des suicides," from Patrice Leconte, about a family business that sells all the possible items that one might need to commit suicide.

-"Pee Wee," directed by Eric Tessier, about a group of 11- and 12-year-old boys in small-town Quebec who prepare for the most important hockey season of their lives — Quebec's World Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament.

- and "Tout ce que tu possedes," written and directed by Bernard Emond, about a man struggling to come to terms with a large inheritance made up of ill-gotten gains.

"We are proud to support experienced teams and renowned, talented filmmakers as well as promising new talent," executive director Carolle Brabant said in the release.

"I am confident that these projects will touch large audiences here and around the world."
