Health advisory issued for local brand of pet food

By

A health advisory if you buy a local brand of pet food.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says Beef Pet Food made or sold by Surrey Meat Packers and Jolly Meats and Fine Foods in Vancouver may be contaminated with E.coli.

The advisory says you may become infected with the bacteria by handling the pet food, or by contact with pets that have eaten the food.

The product was sold frozen in 500 gram blocks assembled in 10-unit and 50-unit packages from October 8 to 23rd.

It may not bear a label indicating packing date or a Best Before date. If you’re concerned, the CFIA asks you check with the store from where you bought the pet food.

So far, no one is known to have gotten sick.

For more information about this advisory, you can call the CFIA at 1-800-442-2342 / TTY 1-800-465-7735 (8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern time, Monday to Friday).
