Donations are down and need is up. The Salvation Army's
Jonny Michel says $8-million has been raised but the organization needs another
$8-million to help all of its families in need. "So this is a very
important week for Canadians to respond and to remember their Christmas gift to
the Salvation Army that supports communities through out the year. Demand for our
services is up this year, so it's really important we make our goal,
$16-million for Canada."
Michel says a lull in donations is typical before a big rush
leading up to Christmas Day. Fears the recession is still holding on may be
partly to blame as well. Last week a kettle containing $200 was stolen in North
Vancouver and while it wasn't recovered, Michel says
the community responded by replacing the money ten times over.
