Consider tattooing your bike with your ID to prevent theft

Many stolen rides are never returned to the owner

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Every year, hundreds of stolen and lost bikes end up on the Vancouver Police auction block.  Now, there is a quick and easy way to make sure your two-wheeler doesn't end up in a warehouse.

Over the weekend, members of the West End Coal Harbour Community Policing Office were at the local market engraving driver's license numbers on bikes.

Vancouver Police Constable Anne Longley says if your ride is ever lost or stolen that etching will link the item back to you.  "We have 1,000 to 1,500 bikes that are recovered every year and 700 to 750 of those can never be returned to the owners because we don't know who the owners are."

She adds volunteers were sending people home with a form to help keep track of the bike's make, model and serial number.
