Mayor Robertson addresses business leaders

Wants to balance revenues and sustainability

Dan Burritt Oct 22, 2010 17:19:57 PM
VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - He had to wade through a protest, but Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson has presented his budget plans to businesses in Downtown Vancouver.

Robertson told the Downtown Vancouver Association about a few highlights of his economic development strategy, which he says is coming out in a few weeks. One is an aggressive business retention plan, meaning the city will visit a thousand companies to figure out how to nurture business growth. Another plan is promoting Vancouver overseas. Robertson says he was talking us up at the World Expo in Shanghai.

The mayor wants a renewed sense of business purpose at city hall, but is pledging not to cut funding for housing and homelessness.

Dozens of housing advocates who crowded the front doors of the Terminal City Club before Robertson's speech say he is not doing enough on the social housing front.
