HST referendum question about to be made public

Draft version set to be released mid-November

The Canadian Press Oct 26, 2010 15:14:43 PM

VICTORIA (NEWS1130) - You could see a draft version of the HST referendum question by mid-November. BC's chief electoral officer is writing the question up now and the final version will be out by November 15.

MLAs will debate the question during the spring session but the chief electoral officer gets the final say on how the question is worded.

The province is also setting up a special office to help sell the HST to voters in the run-up to the referendum. The office will open next Monday to extol the benefits of the tax and answer questions about why the government brought it in and how it will affect consumers, employers and the provincial economy.

Meanwhile, a 19th riding wants to be considered for the HST recall campaign. Forty-seven canvassers have signed up to collect signatures in Kamloops-South Thompson, if that riding is chosen for a recall campaign. Anti-HST crusader Chris Delaney says Liberal MLA Kevin Kreuger has made his constituents unhappy by saying tourists, not British Columbians, should be entitled to HST rebates.
