Auditor: Cell phone users are often overbilled

He says customers usually don't notice

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Major providers frequently overbill for cell phone service, according to the president of a company that audits those bills. Patrick Connelly says the majority of customers usually don't notice.

Connelly, who is with UTR Global, has been doing these audits for almost 20 years. He says three billing problems pop up all the time and most people don't think to check.

"The vendor is not making the customer aware of better pricing options, the telephone companies are billing for service that was disconnected, and they're billing the wrong rate or the wrong plan," he points out.

He says those discrepancies can really add up for big corporations with hundreds or even thousands of cell phone accounts. Last week, Canada's telecommunications complaints commissioner said cell phone complaints are up by 150 per cent.
