SURREY (NEWS1130) - He was an author, columnist, and worked in both TV and Radio. News1130 is looking back at the legacy of Chuck Davis, who died this morning from lung cancer at the age of 74.
He was called the "undisputed authority on the City of Vancouver."
Good friend and veteran sportswriter Jim Taylor describes Davis' vast knowledge and his contagious personality. "He could sit in a room and start talking about Vancouver. He would have everybody doubled up laughing and always with stories they had never heard before."
Taylor says Davis knew he was on borrowed time after being told earlier this year he had terminal lung cancer. But he says it never made an impact on his bright personality.
"You know when you run across a teacher who has all the knowledge, but can't impart it in school and you fall asleep? Chuck could always tell you and it would be accurate and he would make it interesting."
Last month Davis was awarded the George Woodcock Lifetime Achievement Award, bestowed on some of BC's greatest authors.
At the time of his death he had been working on his final book, The History of Metropolitan Vancouver.
