VANOC TravelSmart Challenge hopes to reduce traffic leading up to Olympics

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130)- Have you started thinking about how you will get around during the Olympics?  VANOC's TravelSmart Challenge contest is aiming to reduce traffic every week leading up to the Games.

VANOC says it's all about practice, and changing your driving habits now, instead of later when travel restrictions are in place. VANOC is hoping the contest will encourage companies and their employees to share their Games-time travel plans with others. Companies can sign up for the challenge online.

The goal is to reduce downtown traffic by five per cent by the end of this week, and by 30 per cent by February 12th and through the Olympics.

Companies who commit to reducing traffic downtown will then be entered in a weekly draw for tickets to Victory Ceremonies, which VANOC calls a reward for people changing their travel behavior before the Olympics start. So far over 200 companies have signed up.
