VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Past research has not been too nice to cell phones. But now mobile devices may offer a breakthrough for those suffering from Alzheimer's.
A new study from the University of South Florida exposed mice to cell phone signals. It found that long-term exposure to electromagnetic waves may prevent and possibly reverse Alzheimer's disease. The waves created by standard cellphones had profound effects on the memories of both normal mice and those destined to get the disease. It also reduced the accumulation of a toxic protein in the brain which is believed to be a source of Alzheimer's.
Researchers have been astonished by the findings but caution not to read too much into it, as how it translates to humans hasn't been determined.
