Just in time for the Winter Olympics, the latest Michael Slade mystery novel, "Red Snow",  focuses on a possible terrorist attack during the Games.
Slade says the latest installment in the mystery series that is often based on locations around Vancouver will pose a challenge to readers.
"There are seven puzzles in it.  Imagine yourself a cop, and you have to solve everyone one of the seven puzzles and if you can't get one of them, then things are going to go awry."
Slade says his goal isn't to fool everyone.
He says if 5 per cent of readers can solve all the puzzles, then the other 95 per cent will just try harder to fill in the gaps in his next book.
Slade says if police are worried his book could give terrorists ideas then they should read Red Snow to find out how to counter the threat. He says realistically, the bad guys have plenty of ideas of their own.
