VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - After months of protests and negotiations, four downtown Vancouver hotels have signed a new four-year contract with the Greater Vancouver Hotel Employers Association.
Michelle Travis with Local 40 tells News1130 that 1,600 workers from the Hyatt Regency, Westin Bayshore, the Renaissance and Four Seasons voted 85 per cent in favour of the deal. "They're providing some improvements for the pension. We also saw respectable wage increases over the next few years and we also achieved some reduction in housekeeping workload."
That wage increase is $1.84 an hour over the whole contract.
She adds the contract also includes better health benefits with year-round access to medical coverage.
