Tips on clearing the clutter in the new year

Getting rid of junk is often a new year's resolution

Andrea Macpherson Dec 31, 2010 13:32:37 PM
VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Out with the old, in with the new! A professional organizer is suggesting that same phrase should apply to your clutter as we enter 2011.

Heather Knittel with Good Riddance Professional Organizing tells us, "De-cluttering and getting rid of your old stuff is one of the top five New Years resolutions."

Knittel suggests you start by going through your old Christmas decorations and clearing out the stuff you haven't used in years. She also recommends staying away from boxing week sales. "It is so tempting to buy all those things that are 50 and 75 per cent off. But your house isn't going to infinitely grow to accommodate all of those things. So just keep the things you love the most."

After you are done with the Christmas clear-out she suggests tackling the closet.
